Naturpark Saale-Unstrut-Triasland

The region around the rivers Saale and Unstrut is one of the most beautiful landscapes in the middle of Germany.  The rivers Saale and Unstrut meander through romantic valleys and join near Naumburg.
The nature park is close-knitted to geological aspects of the region. Encountering 'coloured sandstone' / Buntsandstein, shellbearing limestone/ Muschelkalk and Keuper you’ll find well-formed characteristic sequences of rock strata  of the Trias.
The rivers and the geological roots gave the nature park its name.

The Nature Park Saale-Unstrut-Triasland is located in the southern part of Saxony-Anhalt, a German state.  Partially the Nature Park adjoins the federal state Thuringia. Also Saxony isn’t far away. The area about of 103.737 hectares extends over the Districts Burgenlandkreis and Saalekreis as well as partially over the Kyffhäuserkreis and Weimarer Land in Thuringia.

Landscape, culture and history join to an unique occurrence.  Forests, water meadows, dry grasslands with orchids, vineyards, fruit orchards, castles, palaces, monasteries, friendly small towns and charming villages - for everyone the Nature Park overs something interesting to discover and to experience. That’s also the reason for the proposal of acceptance as UNESCO cultural heritage.
An excellent network of hiking and biking paths is available. Those who enjoy water-based activities, like canoeing, will find useful offers along the Rivers Unstrut and Saale.
